white pickups
Posted in Uncategorized on February 3rd, 2010 by ben fenske – 5 CommentsFirst Post
A few months ago i was inspired by Marc Dalessio’s painting blog and I set up my own. It has been untouched since then. I have been lazy and indecisive. I have also lost my camera and started to question the purpose of a blog. However after reading a sarcastic comment from a fellow painter, I have been motivated to get the blog going and figure out the rest later. So in that spirit here is my first post.
White Pickups
Ive realised that over the years i have painted quite a few white pickups.

Sagaponack Pickup 12 x 20 in, oil on wood
I painted this truck last summer in Sagaponack, NY. I wandered into the field without permission and started painting. A few minutes later I met the property owner, explained what I was doing and asked permission to paint there. He was very nice and said “Sure no problem. The keys are in the truck if you want to move it”.

Montauk Pickup 24 x 30 in, oil on canvas
This truck was painted in Montauk on a hot August day. And yes of course I am attracted to the “unique” or “special” light that Hamptonites so often speak about.

Gaspars Pickup 20 x 30 in, oil on canvas
This painting was done a few years ago near Panzano Italy. Pickups like this are an extremely rare sight in Italy. The owner of this truck is a real “personaggio” and and raises “Cinta Senese” pigs (half pig and half wild boar 100% delicious) and sheep. He has a big party every summer on the night of a full moon.

Another sketch of Gaspar’s pickup with his 3 legged dog.
